Frequently Asked Questions

Placement

  • Level placement is determined by considering a combination of factors - age, experience, skill level, and commitment shown by the dancer. Certain classes (such as pointe) require the dancer to pass adjudications to ensure the safety of the dancer.

  • Level placement is determined by considering a combination of factors - age, experience, skill level, and commitment shown by the dancer. Sometimes the dancer needs to stay in a level a year or two longer than his/her age-related peers because of these other factors.

  • This is dependent on the child and their disability, of course. The first step is to schedule a phone consultation with Jen, the Executive Director. Please text (530)521-1006

  • In some cases, we combine 2-3 ballet levels in a class. This allows students to benefit from dancing with a larger group. It can help those in the lower level learn from those in the higher level. It can allow those in the higher level to get the experience of "leading" the combinations (in other words, they sometimes do better knowing the lower level students are watching and following them).

  • Pointe readiness is determined based on a dancer's performance in pointe adjudications, which is a series of testing to ascertain if the student has the strength, flexibility, and technique that's needed to start pointe work safely. PTB staff will send a formal invitation to the family when we see that the student may be ready for pointe adjudications. This is typically around ages 11-14 and after at least 2-3 years of committed dancing.

If you have the desire to observe a class or part of a class as a one-time occasion, consider asking the instructor what their thoughts are. Please keep in mind that we have performances several times a year, so there will be plenty of opportunities for you to see your child dance!
